Lucien Jonas

Lucien Jonas, 1880-1947, studied at Valenciennes with the artist Layraud. In 1895 and 1899 he was a student at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. Jonas was a prolific painter of war scenes and historical and religious portraits. He designed a significant number of war posters and contributed 14 menu illustrations to the Cornet Society and a few caricature drawings for the Bibliophiles of the Cornet during the years 1930-1944. He also painted a large canvas of Georges Wague as Pierrot, which is now in a private French collection, and two Pierrot postcards for Wague in 1930.
